In 1981 Wolfram Schäfer almost retired when the company he had managed and built up was moved to Munich. He decided that the experience he had gathered over the years could be put to valuable use in a company offering external promotion work and by exhibition planning and (hence) the idea of an external exhibition department was born!
 
In 1988 Torsten Schäfer joined the company and started building up in-house system stands. By working as a dedicated team, father and son climbed several assembly ladders and worked on ways of improving their exhibition service worldwide. On 01.01.1997 SMC Schäfer Messe-Consulting GmbH was founded. Since 01.01.2009 Torsten Schäfer continue the business as a sole shareholder and executive manager. 
 
The SMC team now has 25 employees and as a result of the company's continuing success SMC GmbH  acquired another office and warehouse in 2004 totalling meterage of 2.000 m². We can now guarantee a professional exhibition and logistical process.
